MVT Solutions Certified™ found the Michelin X One Line Energy D2 (drive tires only) saved 7.26 gal/1000 miles (5.99%) compared to the Bridgestone M835A Ecopia (drive tires only). In 125,000 miles, this equates to 907.50 gallons of fuel saved. At $2.551 per gallon (2020 average retail price of diesel) this equates to $2,317 in fuel savings. Depending on the difference in tire purchase costs and tire life, the ROI can vary from 1.0 month to 2.1 months. Overall, this test highlights how much fuel can be saved between tire brands and why fleets should be factoring this in their purchase and cost per mile calculations.

Note: this test and report were not created to discredit Bridgestone tires in any way! Comparison tires were required for this test and Bridgestone was chosen since it is a leading competitive brand. Other tire brands may show even greater differences in fuel consumption and cost savings.

Testing was conducted at 78,000 lbs. GVW and 65 mph. All tires were Line Haul, SmartWay approved fuel efficient tires and are considered equal competitors. The report contains guides on calculating savings for different GVW’s.

Carriers can trust the test results are reliable for similar tractor-trailer configurations, they are not specific to the equipment tested.
