Revoy EV

MVT Solutions Certified™ testing in 2024 found the Revoy EV improved fuel economy 65.2% (14.79 MPG) when paired with a sleeper cab tractor and 53-ft dry van trailer. Testing was conducted on an interstate loop at 65 MPH and approximately 79,000 lbs. GVW.

How it Works

The Revoy EV utilizes an electric-powered drive axle on the unit to reduce the load on the tractor engine and therefore reduce the diesel fuel consumed by the tractor. The Revoy EV is a uniquely designed system where the trailer is coupled to the EV and the EV is coupled to the tractor. The Revoy EV units are universal, quick and easy to change between tractors, and require zero hardware installation by the fleet — they connected seamlessly to the MVTS test tractor and trailer.

The Revoy EV includes a battery pack to power the electric axle, which was fully charged prior to testing. As with any electric vehicle or hybrid, the improvement in fuel economy is a tradeoff for electrical power and charging, which should be accounted for. However, the expectation is that electric charging is more environmentally clean and cost-effective than a diesel-powered equivalent.

Test Results

The diesel fuel economy improvement of 65.2% (14.79 MPG) was over the average of the entire 41-mile loop (termed ‘Scenario 3’ by MVTS), which included two (2) accelerations and decelerations. When including only one (1) acceleration and deceleration, termed ‘Scenario 2’ and constituting 38.7 miles of the loop, the savings were 68.2% (17.59 MPG). When including only the steady state, rolling hills portions of the loop, termed ‘Scenario 1’ and constituting 36.6 miles of the loop, the savings were 69.7% (19.12 MPG). Which values apply to a fleet will depend on their duty cycle or combination of the values listed, however, the range was 65.2% – 69.7% (14.79 MPG – 19.12 MPG).

Fuel savings by the Revoy EV can also be expected to increase the range of the tractor, which could pertain to electric or fuel-powered vehicles. The Revoy EV traveled 123.3 miles during the MVTS test, and the state-of-charge changed from 98.8% to 40.0%. Therefore, MVTS considers the total range of the tested Revoy EV to be over 250 miles in long haul operation.
