MVT Solutions CertifiedTM testing found the XSTREAM TRUCKWINGSTM saved 3.87 gal/1000 miles (3.69%) with a 36-inch gap between tractor cab extender and trailer. Fuel savings can be expected to increase with a larger gap, or less aerodynamic tractor than the 2018 International LT test vehicle. Savings can be expected to decrease with less gap. A benefit of the TRUCKWINGSTM is its functionality; it automatically opens and closes at set speeds using XSTREAM’s proprietary CARBONCONNECT system with no driver interaction. The TRUCKWINGSTM test unit has remained on the Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT) tractor since testing with no issues (7 months at the time of writing). This includes no hardware or software issues, and no driver complaints. A secondary advantage of the TRUCKWINGSTM is it being installed on the tractor and getting 100 percent usage from one installation as opposed to a trailer technology whose installations are multiplied by the trailer to tractor ratio.
Confident Results
MVTS has conducted a lot of testing on the aerodynamic gap between the tractor and trailer and there are definitely saving to capitalize on in this area. Savings can vary a lot depending on tractor to trailer gap, and tractor model. Fleets are invited to contact MVTS for more information relating to their application.

Carriers can trust the test results are reliable for other tractor-trailer configurations, they are not specific to MVT’s fleet. During testing, vehicles were configured to represent the current industry-standard and did not include wheel covers or tractor wheel side fairings.
