MVT Solutions Certified™ tested the TRANSTEX® EDGE ELITE AERO™ SYSTEM on a refrigerated trailer with corrugated sides. Savings were 8.88 gal/1000 miles (7.88%). This system consisted of E-2330-T EDGE™ skirts under the trailer and the EDGE TOPKIT+™ at the rear, which included top and side fairings as well as aerodynamic EDGE FLAPS™ aerodynamic mud flaps.
Tested months prior on a dry van trailer with flat sides, the EDGE ELITE AERO™ SYSTEM measured 12.09 gal/1000 miles (10.49%) (click here for dry van results). Fuel savings for air foil technologies at the rear of the trailer are typically lower on refrigerated trailers with corrugated sides when compared to dry van trailers with flat sides. However, refrigerated fleets typically have the benefit of a lower trailer-to-tractor ratio, which reduces the capital investment cost of trailer technologies.
Based on 125,000 miles travelled annually, savings equate to 1,110 gallons per year . At $2.551 per gallon (2020 average retail price of diesel) this equates to $2,832 in fuel savings per year. Using a purchase price of $1,500 and a 2:1 trailer-to-truck ratio, the ROI equates to 12.7 months.
Testing was conducted at 45,000 lbs. GVW and 65 mph. The full report includes calculation guides and more detail on the tests conducted.
Results for Any Carrier
Carriers can trust the test results are reliable for other tractor-trailer configurations, as they are not specific to MVT’s fleet. During testing, vehicles were configured to represent the current industry-standard and did not include wheel covers or tractor wheel side fairings. Carriers can find directions on calculating their own fuel savings in the report or can contact MVT Solutions with questions.
Independent Third Party Testing
MVT Solutions fuel economy testing is independent, 3rd party testing. We do not receive any payment from the sale of products tested. To learn more about the test, view the report above or contact us.
