Michelin Trailer End Solution (TES)View Full Report
MVT Solutions Certified™ testing found the Michelin Trailer End Solution (TES) saved 3.95 gal/1000 miles (3.57%) on a trailer with trailer skirts, and 3.97 gal/1000 miles (3.34%) on a trailer without trailer skirts. The test proved the Michelin TES is a valid fuel savings technology with or without trailer skirts. The TES is comprised of components at the rear of the trailer including 2 side fairings, 1 top fairing, a wake reducer on the trailer doors, and aerodynamic mud flaps.
Note: Although the gal/1000 miles savings of two tests were almost identical (0.02 difference), the test without skirts was 0.22% lower. This is not an error with testing or calculations, it is due to a flaw in measuring fuel savings as a percent. The test without skirts resulted in a lower Baseline fuel economy due to the trailer being less aerodynamic. Therefore, more fuel was consumed. Since percent fuel saved is a product of fuel saved divided by fuel consumed, and the test without skirts consumed more fuel, the percent test result was lower despite the actual gallons of fuel saved being nearly identical. This is an example of why MVTS measures fuel savings in gal/1000 miles and not percent.
Results for Any Carrier
Carriers can trust the test results are reliable for other tractor-trailer configurations, as they are not specific to MVT’s fleet. During testing, vehicles were configured to represent the current industry standard and did not include wheel covers or tractor wheel side fairings. Carriers can find directions on calculating their own fuel savings in the report or contact MVT Solutions with questions.
Independent Third Party Testing
MVT Solutions fuel economy testing is independent, 3rd party testing. We do not receive any payment from the sale of products tested. To learn more about the test, view the report above or contact us.
