MVT Solutions Certified™ tested two configurations of Transtex, LLC aerodynamic solutions. The EDGE TopKit+, which is a rear solution for the trailer, showed savings of 5.11 gal/1000 miles (4.44%) and the EDGE Elite Aero System showed savings of 12.09 gal/1000 miles (10.49%), which was slightly over 1 MPG. The TopKit+ system is an improved design of the original TopKit, which includes changes to the fairings and the addition of aerodynamic mud flaps. The Elite Aero System is comprised of the TopKit+ and EDGE E-2330T trailer skirts.

Based on 125,000 miles travelled annually, savings equate to 639 gallons per year for the TopKit+. At $3.056 per gallon (2019 average retail price of diesel) this equates to $1,953 in fuel savings per year. Using a purchase price of $700 and a 2:1 trailer to truck ratio, ROI equates to 8.6 months. Using the same conditions, the Elite Aero System would save 1,511 gallons of fuel per year. Using a purchase price of $1,500, the ROI for the Elite Aero System would be 7.8 months. 

Testing was conducted at 45,000 lbs. GVW and 65 mph. The full report includes calculation guides and more detail on the tests conducted.

Results for Any Carrier

Carriers can trust the test results are reliable for other tractor-trailer configurations, as they are not specific to MVT’s fleet. During testing, vehicles were configured to represent the current industry-standard and did not include wheel covers or tractor wheel side fairings.
